ABSTRACT
Syphilis is a multisystemic disease caused by hematogenous dissemination of Treponema pallidum after its invasion into the circulation system. However, the specific mechanism of systemic dissemination is not yet fully clear. Based on the research progress in China and other countries, this review discusses mechanisms underlying hematogenous dissemination of Treponema pallidum in terms of Treponema pallidum adhesion, extracellular matrix degradation, destruction of intercellular connection and cytoskeletal system, angiogenesis, inflammatory cell infiltration, etc., aiming to provide a theoretical basis for further research.
